From the start of the early 60’s the cattle industry has been a part of our lives. The first purebred Charolais cows were purchased in 1963 by Mel and Don Schumacher. They participated in many local, regional and national shows, and consigned in sales and events. This was the start of Schumacher Bros. Charolais Ranch. Mel and Don also ran a masonry company. In the early 80’s Mel retired from masonry and continued his true love for the land and cattle. Don stayed in masonry and formed D&S Masonry with Bob Dinges.
At this point Schumacher Trust Ranch was family owned and established by Mel, his wife Norma, their three daughters. Connie and Gail have moved on with their own goals in life. However, they and their families are never far when the farming or ranching operation needs a helping hand. Upon graduation Gerri stayed on the ranch helping to develop and promote the cattle program. Along with the cattle operation we raise wheat, sorghum crops and alfalfa. Mel and Gerri handle all the day to day work load.
With the good foundation base of the initial Charolais cowherd we continued to make improvements. In 1999 we introduced Red Angus to our lineup. At this point D&S Farms owned by Don Schumacher and Bob Dinges established a Red Angus herd working as a cooperative with Schumacher Trust. At present day our program consists of high performance cattle adding maternal and carcass merit. We sell by private treaty annually mainly in the spring, with some older bulls available each fall.
We look forward to seeing many of our past customers, and meeting may more. Visitors are always welcome. We enjoy talking cattle and sharing stories.
